Paved surfaces have formed part of roadways since 4000 BC and evolved from concrete slabs to shaped concrete blocks that are still in existence. Centuries later, the need for more hard-wearing surfaces has extended beyond roadways to include pedestrian walkways and domestic paving, with bevel paving proving to be a durable and long-lasting option. The added benefit of simplistic installation, durability, minimal maintenance, and affordability, to name a few, have made MVA Bricks’ bevelled pavers the most versatile and hardy pavers for use in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors.
Importance of Segmented Paving
Segmented paving is designed to form a continuous hard-wearing surface overlay by arranging the blocks in various patterns and layouts. As aesthetically pleasing as bevel paving is, the structural design of public walkways, pavements and road surfaces needs to be able to carry both foot and road traffic at an acceptable level of safety and an affordable cost.
Design and Construction
If designed correctly, bevel paving lasts decades requiring little to no maintenance. However, ensuring longevity means that certain requirements must be met concerning the design and construction. At MVA Bricks, we have ensured that our bevel paving is manufactured using high-quality concrete and according to SANS 1058 standards provide surfaces that:
· Promote good water drainage
· Improve overall grip, specifically for outdoor applications
· Can withstand the elements
· Can handle varying load capacities
Aspects of Quality Concrete Pavers
During the design stage of MVA Bricks’ bevel paving, the strength, shape, thickness and dimensional tolerance are taken into consideration.
1. Strength
The compression strength of segmented paving is significantly higher than that of bricks. This is to ensure that our bevel paving has adequate resistance to traffic and the elements as well as any damage that can be caused over time.
2. Shape
Although it may seem that the shape of our paving is purely aesthetic, it facilitates resistance to both horizontal and vertical creep. Geometrical laying patterns form an interlocking effect between the pavers, creating a strong bond, and making them resistant to movement under traffic.
3. Thickness
Our bevel paving is 50mm thick making them ideal for pedestrian pathways, segmented walkways and light vehicle traffic to name a few. As industry tends to cause heavier traffic, a thicker paver is suggested to resist vertical deformation and horizontal creep.
4. Dimensional tolerance
To ensure that the finished surface is even and there is a strong bond between the pavers, the bevel paving selected must be within the required dimensions.
Our bevel paving affords commerce and industry a cost-effective way of providing rugged and durable surfaces that can cope with excessive amounts of traffic. Largely used in shopping centres, malls, parking lots, garage forecourts, suburban streets, pavements, office parks and municipal centres, they not only blend in with the natural landscape but, when commerce has been established in residential areas, can bridge the divide between the two.
Integral Structural Component
Bevel paving is an integral structural component and, as such, contributes to the strength of pavements, roads and parking structures alike. The design of our bevel pavers, together with the availability of a variety of colour options, has afforded us the opportunity to supply our pavers to numerous projects providing aesthetically pleasing paving combinations for residential communal areas as well as durable road and parking surfaces.
Since 1995, MVA Bricks has been supplying its range of bevel paving to a broad market sector in Gauteng and neighbouring provinces. Our selection of additional products has afforded us the opportunity of offering our clients the tools to complete their paving projects, such as cement and a choice of washed plaster or washed river sand, basic equipment as well as numerous other products.
