MVA Bricks, as suppliers and installers of quality pavers, understands the concerns surrounding paving options and, to assist in making your decision a little easier, debunks the common myths in this regard.
A Costly Investment
No flexibility of movement
As they are individual sections made from cement, the pavers are laid to lock into place leaving a system that is flexible and durable. Pavers are up to three times stronger than concrete slabs and will only heave and move if not installed correctly. Installation includes excavation, grading, sub-base compaction, base preparation, base compaction, sand preparation, paver laying, border cutting, bond beam preparation and stone compaction. If all the preparation steps are followed correctly, the cement paving will remain even and not be affected by the elements or traffic.
Difficult to repair
Unlike monolithic structures that need to be repaired in entire sections or attempted to be matched and patched, cement paving can be spot repaired. The reliant and resilient material of the pavers absorbs pressure, weight and force differently from others making them less susceptible to damage in the first place.
Limited colours and shapes
Where cement paving used to be limited to standard bricks only, it has now become a focal point of any commercial or industrial site. Available in a combination of colours, sizes, styles and texture variations, there is no limit to the patterns that can be laid out. As with many outdoor materials, the sun plays a part in discolouration. However, fading shouldn’t be a concern as quality cement pavers are coloured with oxides throughout the thickness of the paver.
